VM Estimator – Accurate Virtual Machine Cost Calculation

This tool helps you estimate the required virtual machine resources for your specific needs.

How to use the VM Estimator

To use the VM Estimator, fill in the fields with the required information:

  1. Number of CPUs: Enter the number of CPUs the virtual machine will use.
  2. RAM (GB): Enter the amount of RAM (in GB) the virtual machine will use.
  3. Storage (GB): Enter the total storage capacity (in GB) for the virtual machine.
  4. Data Transfer (TB): Enter the estimated data transfer (in TB) per month.
  5. Usage Hours per Month: Enter the number of hours per month the virtual machine will be running.

After entering the necessary information, click the “Calculate” button to estimate the total cost of running the virtual machine.

Calculation Method Explanation

The VM Estimator calculates the total cost based on the following rates:

  • Cost per CPU: $0.05 per CPU per hour.
  • Cost per RAM: $0.01 per GB of RAM per hour.
  • Cost per Storage: $0.002 per GB of storage per month.
  • Cost per Data Transfer: $0.12 per TB of data transfer per month.

The total cost is the sum of the individual components’ costs, calculated as follows:

Total Cost = (CPUs * Cost per CPU * Hours) + (RAM * Cost per RAM * Hours) + (Storage * Cost per Storage) + (Data Transfer * Cost per Data Transfer)

Limitations

  • This estimator assumes constant rates and does not account for varying rates during peak hours.
  • It does not include any potential discounts or any additional services besides CPU, RAM, Storage, and Data Transfer.
