FDIC Estimator – Calculate Your FDIC Insurance

This tool helps you estimate your potential deposit insurance coverage with the FDIC.

How to Use the FDIC Estimator

Using this FDIC estimator, you can determine the insured amount of your deposits based on various parameters.

Instructions:

  1. Select your Account Ownership Type from the dropdown menu.
  2. Enter the Deposit Amount you have or intend to invest.
  3. Provide the Interest Rate (Annual) you expect to earn on this deposit.
  4. Specify the Number of Years you will hold this deposit.
  5. Click Calculate to see the insured amount of your deposit.

Calculation Explanation:

This estimator considers the account ownership type to determine the FDIC insurance limit. The insurance limit varies based on the type of account:

  • Single Account: Insured up to $250,000
  • Joint Account: Insured up to $500,000
  • Revocable Trust: Insured up to $250,000 (assuming single beneficiary)
  • Irrevocable Trust: Insured up to $250,000 (simplified)
  • Corporation Partnership or Organization Account: Insured up to $250,000
  • Government Account: Insured up to $250,000

The calculator also computes the future value of your deposit using the formula:

Future Value = Deposit Amount × (1 + Interest Rate/100) ^ Number of Years

If the computed future value exceeds the FDIC insurance limit for your specific account type, the estimator adjusts the final value to reflect the maximum insured amount.

Limitations:

Please note that this calculator provides an estimate and should not be considered as a definitive financial or legal advice tool. The FDIC insurance limits and regulations may change over time, and actual coverage may depend on more nuanced factors not covered in this estimator.
