Use this tool to estimate the number of individuals in a population for conservation purposes.

How to Use the Solar Energy Savings Calculator

This calculator helps estimate the annual savings from installing a photovoltaic (PV) solar system.

  1. Installed Capacity (kW): Enter the total installed capacity of your PV system in kilowatts.
  2. System Efficiency (%): Enter the efficiency of the system as a percentage.
  3. Average Sun Hours per Day: Enter the average number of sun hours your location receives daily.
  4. Days of Operation per Year: Enter the number of days the system is operational per year.
  5. Area Available (sq. meters): Enter the area available for the installation of solar panels in square meters.
  6. Cost per kWh ($): Enter the cost per kilowatt-hour in your region.
  7. Click on the Calculate button to get the estimated annual savings.

How It Calculates the Results

The calculator uses the formula:

Annual Savings ($) = Installed Capacity (kW) × System Efficiency (%) × Average Sun Hours per Day × Days of Operation per Year × Cost per kWh ($)

The efficiency value is converted from percentage to a decimal for the calculation. The daily energy output is calculated first, then multiplied by the days of operation in a year to get the annual output. Finally, the annual output is multiplied by the cost per kWh to get the estimated savings in dollars.

Limitations

This calculator provides a rough estimate of the annual savings and does not account for factors such as:

  • Variations in energy production due to weather conditions.
  • System maintenance and degradation over time.
  • Changes in energy costs over the year.
  • Shading, dirt, and other environmental factors affecting system performance.

For a more accurate assessment, it’s advised to consult with a professional solar energy contractor.
